Only a year since forming, the electronic noise pop group crafts a hypnotic release for the wide eyed and wild. The trio self-produced and mixed the EP, which encompasses elements of IDM and experimental pop music. With synthesisers and vocals that layer and clutter, chanting guitar loops and frantic rhythms, Bon Chat Bon Rat is as much chaotic and claustrophobic as it is inspiring. By Warping conventional song structures and drawing on innovating instrument use, the result is a bold, mesmerising experience.

///

Map of São Paulo

Tribes

///

Sydney three-piece Bon Chat, Bon Rat sound exactly like a band from the year 2010. Which is to say they sound exactly like a band from the year 1982 who discovered Macbooks in a time machine then smoked too much weed and proceeded to wig the fuck out. - [Pedestrian.tv]

Their songs are the product of actual thought; their arrangements use the aforementioned instruments, but they’re deployed in a dynamic way that rewards attention to detail. Their tracks never slow down to pat themselves on the back, and the disparate elements create tension, never translating as awkwardly sandwiched together. - Matt Hickey [WhoTheHell]

A cool name is just one reason to like new Sydney trio, Bon Chat, Bon Rat. Other reasons are their music: it's ambient but it ain't sleepy; IDM without being inscrutable; dramatic sans melodrama; and electronic-based while still being endearingly, humanly flawed. I'm excited about the way dudes like Bon Chat, Bon Rat are re-framing electronic music, with a more indie-rock approach and aesthetic; like Sydneysiders Seekae, Pivot, or Chicago's up-and-coming evil duo Gatekeeper. It's slow moving and sparse, pretty and somewhat dark. And without a hint of retro 80s irony (thank God). - Wilfred Brandt [TwoThousand]
